Chapter Three
The breakfast was a silent affair though the silence was quite a strained and uncomfortable. Severus was drinking his second cup of coffee reading Potions Monthly, Tobias on the other hand was already through with his breakfast and only sipped his tea reading Daily Prophet, or at least he tried. His eyes straying to his teenage son every now and then, since he seemed to not eat, but like his other son opted for a single cup of coffee. The bad eating habits worried him even when it was Severus alone, but his first-born was old enough to be able to reason his way out. With harry though, he still might succeed, no wonder the child looked as if a stronger wind could blow him away, if he didn't eat properly. He noticed at the previous meals that even though Harry put some food on his plate it never was anywhere near enough for a boy his age, not to mention he never even finished the little he served himself.

Just when he wanted to comment on Harry's eating an elf appeared next to Harry's chair and was handing him a post. Harry quietly thanked the little creature and broke the Ministry seal. Tobias watched carefully what it could've been that Ministry wanted from his son, when he remembered that it was probably the OWL results, so he waited patiently.

Harry slovenly unfolded the parchment and let his eyes roam through the lines, then with a quiet sigh folded the parchment back, put it in the envelope and continued sipping his coffee staring blankly into space.

"Harry?" Tobias urged, not quite succeeding to suppress the curiosity that resounded in his voice.
"Sir?"
"How did you do?" he asked ignoring the address, he conceded it was too early for the boy to call him father and if he felt comfortable with the sir then so be it, though he'd rather Harry called Severus by his name, but he wasn't very lucky with that. It took him a week – and a paternity potion – to persuade Severus to stop calling Harry Potter, unfortunately Severus stopped addressing Harry at all, if he even spoke to him.

Harry stared blankly at Tobias for few seconds before he looked down at the envelope, as if he only now realized what exactly was asked of him. He silently handed the envelope to him. Tobias had nightly talks with Severus during which he asked about Harry meanwhile trying to get Severus to at least act cordially towards his brother. According to Severus, Harry was average student at best, though he remembered the conversation when he asked Harry about his studies, and if he like his brother inherited a talent for potions after Eileen. The conversation ended very quickly as Severus overheard and proceeded to describe in detail Harry's continued failures at that particular subject. And once again, Harry didn't even attempt to defend himself. Tobias was average brewer, definitely not a Potion Master material, so he understood a lack of talent, and if Severus was in Potions anything like he behaved towards Harry at home, well... while miffed by his older son, he could understand that Harry didn't bother to put an effort to the subject. He had told Harry back then, he didn't need a geniuses in family but nevertheless that he wished for him to do his best even in the subjects he didn't like. Harry gave him his usual "Yes, Sir," and with Severus smirking snidely at his brother the conversation ended.

Tobias carefully pulled the parchment from the envelope and unfolded it, willing his face blank. Harry might be an average student and he'd like him to do better, but showing disappointment at the first fault he could find in the child would probably do no good. But despite the determination his face crumbled to shock before turning his eyes at his little Gryffindor.

Harry was an average student?! How did Severus come to that conclusion?

"I told you he's no good," Severus said snidely as if to add an oil to the fire.
"Sorry, Severus, but if this is called no good, then I have to wonder if young Malfoy is a Merlin reincarnated since you praise him quite often..."
"What do you mean?" Severus frowned before glaring at Harry who ignored whole conversation spacing off blankly somewhere. Tobias looked at Harry as well, but sighed at his obvious lack of care about Severus' glares. How the child was a Gryffindor he had to wonder.

He silently handed the parchment to Severus and he took it, quickly scanning it, and his eyes promptly widened in shock as well.
